Según el especialista Riichi Miyake, su trabajo es el equivalente en arquitectura a Médicos Sin Fronteras.Como si de poesía tridimensional se tratara, Ban integra los materiales en el diseño. Más que por su carácter vanguardista, los elige por sus posibilidades expresivas y su capacidad de transmitir el concepto global del proyecto. Los tubos de papel son un elemento especialmente frecuente en las construcciones del arquitecto y aparecen, por ejemplo, en el pabellón japonés de la Expo 2000 y en las Paper Log Houses de Filipinas, construidas tras el tifón Haiyán en noviembre de 2013.Esta introducción al universo creativo de Shigeru Ban, elaborada con la colaboración del propio arquitecto, presenta sus proyectos más importantes hasta la fecha y evidencia el alcance y la importancia del trabajo de “un maestro comprometido que no sólo es un ejemplo a seguir para las nuevas generaciones, sino una fuente de inspiración”, según palabras del jurado del premio Pritzker.
